Solid wood flooring expands and contracts throughout the year, coinciding with the changing temperatures, so it needs to be fitted with well measured margins. Visually similar to solid hardwood flooring, this option is made up of layers of plywood beneath a solid layer on top. The underlying plywood allows it to cope better with inevitable temperature and moisture fluctuation. Engineered flooring can be re-sanded and re-varnished, but only a limited number of times, as there is only so much hardwood to work with.
